Electrical service along the Calcasieu River

The Calcasieu River corridor runs from Lake Charles south to the Gulf, passing through industrial properties, waterfront homes, and camps along the way. Drive times from our shop vary widely depending on which stretch of the river the property sits on. For most riverfront homes in the Lake Charles to Westlake stretch, the drive is fifteen to twenty-five minutes.

What we work on along the river

Dock, boathouse, and waterfront electrical is the steady call. NEC 555 governs the work: ground-fault protection on dock receptacles, equipotential bonding around the dock structure, marine-rated wire and conduit in wet locations, and real disconnects at the dock end. The failure mode (electric shock drowning) is preventable and we follow the code strictly.

Boat lift motors, dock lighting, weatherproof shore-power receptacles, and exterior outdoor service for piers are common scopes. We size conductors for the run length over the water, use rigid conduit where exposed to UV and weather, and put the disconnect within sight of the equipment.

Camp and weekend-property work is its own category. Many river camps run minimal electrical (a panel, a few lights, a refrigerator, a well-pump) but the install still has to follow NEC 250 grounding, NEC 210.8 GFCI in wet locations, and the same service rules as a year-round home. We bring older camps up to current code when the customer is ready for the investment.

Salt-fog and humidity are factors anywhere close to the water. We use stainless hardware, weatherproof in-use covers per NEC 406.4, and rigid conduit instead of EMT in any exposed run. The cost difference is small. The service life difference is real.

For a heavy storm rebuild, we start with a new service entrance sized for the rebuilt structure, then run the rough at framing. NEC 110.26 working clearance and 250 grounding are documented for the inspector. We coordinate with Entergy for the permanent reconnect.
