Iowa (pronounced eye-oh-way locally) sits fifteen miles east of Lake Charles on I-10, still inside Calcasieu Parish. The drive from our shop is twenty to twenty-five minutes. The town is small and residential at the core, with rural acreage stretching south toward the Lacassine area. We run Iowa calls weekly.

With heat pumps replacing the old natural gas furnaces and central AC compressors getting larger, the 100A panel is often the bottleneck. We run a load calc, size the new service, and either replace in place or move to an outdoor meter-main combo.
Generator installs are heavy. Iowa lost power for an extended stretch after Hurricane Laura. Standby systems are common now. Most installs are Generac air-cooled in the 22-26kW range with a service-rated transfer switch. We coordinate with Entergy for the meter pull and the parish for the permit.

Iowa is unincorporated Calcasieu Parish for permit purposes, so electrical permits are issued by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Building Division. We pull the permit and handle the parish inspection scheduling.

Yes, Federal Pacific Stab-Lok panels have a documented history of breakers that fail to trip on overload, which is a real fire risk. We replace the whole panel with a new Square D or Eaton, re-land all the circuits, and add the AFCI and GFCI coverage the original panel never had.
