Thermal imaging assessment
Fluke thermal imager scan on the panel under typical evening load to identify hot terminations. Insulation resistance test methodology
The Fluke 1587 tester applies a DC test voltage (typically 500V or 1000V for residential branch circuits) between the circuit conductors and ground, then measures the resistance through the insulation. Sound modern insulation reads above 100 megohms. Degraded insulation reads progressively lower. Below 10 megohms typically indicates failure is imminent. Below 1 megohm is active leakage. We record the reading per circuit and include the readings in the report.
What we do with thermal images
The thermal images are included in the report at the locations where hot spots were found. Each hot spot has the thermal image, the location description, the reference temperature versus the surrounding bus or terminations, and a recommendation. Hot terminations are often correctable on a follow-up visit (torque check and rework). Hot bus or hot breakers usually indicate panel-level concerns that need broader scope.
Circuit mapping methodology
We turn each breaker off in sequence and walk through the house identifying which devices and fixtures lose power. The breaker labeling is updated in real time with the rooms and devices covered.
