What home electrical rewiring in Lake Charles looks like

Whole-home rewiring replaces every branch circuit in the house. New cable, new boxes, new devices, often a new panel as part of the same scope. It is the right work when the original wiring is at end-of-life (knob-and-tube, deteriorated 1950s NM, widespread aluminum branch failures), when major insurance or financing decisions require it, or when a remodel opens enough wall that pulling new wire is much cheaper than spot-repairing the old wiring.

When a rewire is the right scope

Knob-and-tube wiring (pre-1950 construction in older Lake Charles homes). Original 1950s and early 1960s NM cable with degraded insulation. What gets replaced

Every branch circuit in the house: lighting circuits, general-purpose receptacle circuits, small-appliance circuits, dedicated appliance circuits, HVAC circuits. Lake Charles specifics

Older Charpentier and Margaret Place homes often have a mix of original 1920s knob-and-tube and 1950s through 1980s patched-in extensions, none of which meet current code on grounding or AFCI/GFCI requirements. A rewire on those houses brings the whole electrical system current and removes the most common safety findings on inspection. Storm restoration after Laura and Delta in 2020 drove a meaningful number of rewires where flooded or fire-damaged wiring needed full replacement.

What rewiring is not

Rewiring does not necessarily mean opening every wall. Most rewires use a fish-and-pull approach through wall cavities with access cuts only where necessary. The labor goes into the cable routing, not into demolition. Remodel-driven rewires where walls are already open are dramatically faster and cheaper because the access work is already done.

What you live with during a rewire

Most rewires happen with the homeowner in residence. Power to individual rooms goes on and off as we move through the house, typically with whole-house outages limited to the panel-swap day (one full day mid-project). Walking around boxes of new cable, fishing tools laid out near access points, and small drywall openings at strategic locations becomes the daily condition for the project duration. We protect floors and furniture; we sweep and pick up at the end of each day.

Coordination with the drywall trade

The wall openings we cut for cable access need patching. We can do the patch as a separate line item or you can hire a drywall trade. On larger rewires where the access scope is significant, hiring a dedicated drywall trade is usually faster and produces a better paint-ready finish. We coordinate the schedule so the patcher arrives after our rough-in completes.

Permits and inspections

Calcasieu Parish AHJ inspects rough-in (before walls close on demolition-driven rewires, or before trim on fish-and-pull rewires) and final (after trim and panel work). We are present for both inspections. The permit closes after the final inspection passes, which is the document trail for any insurance or resale conversation.

Warranty

Workmanship warranty on a full rewire is typically 5 years on labor with the standard manufacturer warranties on parts (typically 10 years on breakers and devices). We stand behind the work for the full warranty period at no charge for any workmanship issue.
