Standby generator demand in Iowa jumped after Hurricane Laura in 2020 and Delta later that year, when perimeter addresses lost power for days or weeks. The ATS goes near the existing panel and we run a service-rated whole-home switch or a sub-panel for critical loads, depending on scope. We bond the generator frame per NEC 250 and tag the panel per NEC 702.
Permit pulls through the Calcasieu Parish permit office. Propane tie-in is coordinated with the LP supplier or a licensed plumber if we are not doing the gas. Most Iowa standby installs are a one to two day job for the electrical side, plus the LP tie-in and the startup commissioning. The exercise schedule and ATS test under load happen at startup with the owner present.
Iowa is unincorporated Calcasieu Parish for permit purposes, so electrical permits are issued by the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury Building Division. We pull the permit and handle the parish inspection scheduling. Permit work runs under LA Lic #73821. You do not touch the paperwork.
