Detector placement requirements

Interconnect wiring
Hardwired interconnect detectors use a 3-conductor cable (hot, neutral, interconnect signal) typically running 14 AWG NM cable from detector to detector. The interconnect signal carries the alarm condition from one detector to all others wired on the same interconnect loop. Modern detectors also offer wireless interconnect using radio signals, which avoids pulling new cable in retrofit installations but requires battery replacement and periodic testing of the wireless link.
