The standard upgrade is a 200A service-rated meter-main combo on an outside wall with new conductors from the weatherhead, a new grounding electrode system per NEC 250, and individual circuit replacements as the budget allows. We can stage the work to spread cost.
Cloth-jacket NM cable from the 1940s and 1950s sometimes shows up alongside the K&T as the first round of remodels. The cloth insulation breaks down at the box terminations and we typically pigtail or replace the last 12 inches of conductor at every device to restore a safe termination.
Historic district homes also benefit from an honest conversation about what to preserve. Original push-button switches and brass-finish fixtures matter to many owners. We can rewire behind them and re-use them where they are safe to keep.

Yes, we work Margaret Place regularly. Pre-1940 wiring, original meter bases on the side of the house, and undersized 60 amp services are normal for the area. We respect the historic fabric and run new circuits with the least visible damage possible.
Existing knob-and-tube is not automatically illegal but it cannot be buried in modern insulation and cannot serve circuits requiring AFCI or GFCI protection per NEC 210.12 and 210.8. Most insurance carriers will not cover it. We typically rewire affected circuits and keep the work clean and inspected.
Yes, in most cases we replace the mast, meter base, and panel in their existing locations so the look of the house is preserved. We coordinate the Entergy disconnect and reconnect and the city inspection. If the run needs to move, we discuss the options first.
Yes, any service or panel change inside city limits needs a permit and inspection. The city checks grounding per NEC 250, AFCI and GFCI coverage per 210.12 and 210.8, and labeling per 408. We pull the permit and meet the inspector.
Yes, a panel that took water in Laura or Delta should be replaced. The bus bar corrodes inside even after the exterior dries, and breakers can fail to trip on fault. We replace per NEC 230 and 408 and document for your insurance.
