How same-day electrical repair works.
GFCI and AFCI replacement
A GFCI that will not reset is usually past its end of life, around 7 to 10 years for older models. We replace with current Leviton SmartlockPro devices on the truck. Indicator-equipped models tell you on the LED whether the device tripped on ground fault or end-of-life self-test. AFCI replacements often start as a nuisance-trip call on an older combination AFCI design, and we move the protection to a newer breaker design that handles motor loads cleanly.Breaker swap on existing panels
A breaker that fails to hold under normal load is replaced same-day on most current Square D QO, Eaton CH and BR, and Siemens panels. We carry the common amperages on the truck. Federal Pacific Stab-Lok and Zinsco panels are a separate conversation because new-old-stock breakers for those panels are unreliable, and we recommend panel replacement rather than spot repair on either.Light fixture and ceiling fan installs
Fixture and fan installs are common same-day work. We verify the box is rated for the load (fan boxes are rated higher than standard ceiling boxes per NEC 314.27), make NEC 314.16 box-fill calculations on shared-circuit boxes, and ground the fixture to the equipment grounding conductor. Older homes without ground in the ceiling box get the fixture install plus a note on the cause for follow-up rewire if you want grounded protection.Dead circuit trace
A circuit that no longer carries power gets traced from panel to last device. Common failure modes are a burned backstab connection inside a wall box, a failed downstream GFCI cutting power to everything below it on the same circuit, a loose neutral splice in a junction box, or a single failed device that broke the daisy chain. Most dead-circuit traces finish inside 60 minutes and the repair completes same-visit.Our process
Same-day intake
Call before noon for same-day in most cases. The dispatcher asks what the symptom is, confirms the address, and assigns the next available slot.
Tech ETA
You get a 2 hour arrival window and a text-on-the-way notification 30 minutes before the tech arrives.
Diagnosis
The tech confirms the symptom, isolates the circuit or device, and diagnoses with a Fluke meter and a visual inspection. Diagnostics are billed flat-rate, not by the hour.
Quote on the spot
You get the repair price on paper before any parts come out of the truck. Most common repairs are a flat-rate device replacement or breaker swap, with no surprise upcharges.
Same-visit repair
With sign-off, the repair completes same-visit. Common parts (devices, breakers, fixtures) are on the truck. Anything that needs a special-order part gets the same-day diagnosis billing only, with the repair scheduled for the next day.
Test and close
Every same-day repair ends with a load test on the repaired circuit, a Fluke voltage check, and a written invoice. You see the work before we leave.
Permits and inspections
Some jobs need a permit in Calcasieu, some do not. When the parish or city wants one, we pull it under LA Lic #73821, set the rough-in and final inspection, and stay on the job until the inspector signs off. You do not touch the paperwork.
What's covered
Lifetime Craftsmanship Guarantee on every install. If our work fails because of how we put it in, we come back and fix it at no charge. Documented in writing at handoff and stays with the home.
What we check before recommending a fix
Same-day repairs follow NEC 210.8 for GFCI protection, NEC 210.12 for AFCI protection, NEC 406.4 and 406.12 for receptacle replacements, NEC 314.16 for box fill on fixture work, and NEC 110.14 for termination practice (backstabbed connections are reworked to side-screw or wirenut, not reused). Older homes without grounded circuits get GFCI replacement per the NEC 406.4(D)(2) allowance, which is the code-compliant path to protection without a full rewire. Federal Pacific Stab-Lok and Zinsco panels are flagged for replacement on every visit because of their documented failed-trip history per CPSC alerts.

Why hiring a licensed electrician matters.
Here is the no-spin cut on same-day electrical repair. Same answer we would give a friend in Westlake or Carlyss, whether or not we end up winning the job.

How to know when it is time, and what to expect.
When to call us in for same-day electrical repair
Most same-day electrical repair calls fall into one of three patterns: a single component gave out and the symptom is obvious, a slowly loosening connection finally tripped or stopped working, or a previous repair (yours, a handyman, a prior contractor) was never quite right and the underlying issue resurfaced. If the symptom is smoke, sparks, a burning smell, or a panel hot to the touch, do not wait it out. Call the shop. Active hazards get same-day dispatch when capacity allows. Routine repairs go on the next slot, usually inside the same week here in SWLA.
What we walk on the first visit
The first 20 to 30 minutes is eyes and ears: walk the symptom with you, open the panel to spot anything related, trace the affected circuit, find the actual root rather than the easy answer. Most same-day electrical repair issues live somewhere other than where the symptom shows (lights flicker from a loose lug at the panel, an outlet quits because the next box downstream has a backstab going bad). The diagnostic is the real job, the price reflects that. We write the scope after the diagnosis, not before.
What same-day electrical repair in Lake Charles looks like
Same-day means we get to your house on the day you call, in the daylight, at the standard rate. It is the right choice for problems that need attention but are not an immediate fire or shock hazard. A dead outlet, a tripped circuit that will not reset cleanly, a non-working light fixture, a flickering lighting circuit, or a single GFCI device that will not reset.
We hold same-day slots on our schedule for Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish residents. Same-day requests called in before noon usually land before 5 PM on the same day. Calls after noon sometimes spill to early next morning depending on the load on the schedule.
What qualifies as a same-day call
A repair that can be diagnosed and fixed within one truck visit, no permit required, no service-side work, no Entergy coordination. The most common same-day calls are outlet replacements, switch replacements, GFCI replacements, AFCI replacements, light fixture installs, ceiling fan installs, and breaker swaps on existing panels.
What is not a same-day call
Anything inside the meter base, anything that needs a Calcasieu Parish permit, full panel replacement, service entrance work, or major rewiring. Those scopes need scheduling for a multi-day window with permits and inspector availability. We tell you on the phone which category your job is in.
NEC and code points that apply
NEC 210.8 governs GFCI protection for kitchens, baths, garages, outdoor receptacles, laundry, and within 6 feet of any sink. Same-day GFCI replacements are common. NEC 210.12 governs AFCI protection for dwelling unit branch circuits. NEC 406.4 governs grounding-type receptacle replacements. NEC 406.12 governs tamper-resistant receptacles in dwellings. NEC 314.16 governs box fill, which often comes into play on fixture and fan installs.
Lake Charles specifics
Coastal humidity wears outdoor GFCI receptacles faster than inland conditions. NEC 406.9 requires weather-resistant receptacles in damp and wet locations, and we carry weather-resistant Leviton and Hubbell devices on the truck. Houses built before 1962 often have ungrounded two-prong receptacles. NEC 406.4(D)(2) allows GFCI replacement as the code-compliant fix without rewiring the branch, and we handle that conversion same-day.
When same-day turns into a bigger conversation
Sometimes a same-day call uncovers a bigger problem. A dead circuit traced to a burned backstab connection is a same-day fix. The same trace on a Federal Pacific or Zinsco panel often raises a separate question about panel replacement. We finish the immediate repair, document the bigger finding with photos, and you decide whether to address it in a separate scoped visit.
What you can expect on a same-day visit
The tech arrives in the 2 hour window the dispatcher gave you. He confirms the symptom with you, opens the affected device or panel, diagnoses with a Fluke meter, and shows you what failed before any parts come out of the truck. The repair scope and price are on paper before any work begins. Common parts (Leviton and Hubbell devices, Square D and Eaton breakers in standard amperages, Lutron dimmers) are stocked on the truck. The repair usually completes inside 1 to 3 hours from arrival.
What we do not do on same-day visits
Anything that requires a Calcasieu Parish permit or an Entergy meter-pull cannot complete same-day in practice. We can quote the larger scope on the same-day visit, but the actual permitted work schedules in a separate window. Panel replacements, service entrance work, EV charger installs, hot tub circuits, and major rewiring all fall into this category.
Same-day on weekends and holidays
Weekend and holiday calls move to the emergency dispatch line because the standard scheduling crews are off. Saturday morning calls sometimes get a same-day weekend slot at standard rates if a crew is available; after noon Saturday and Sunday and holiday calls are emergency-rate dispatch. The dispatcher tells you which on the phone.
What Southwest Louisiana says about our work
Real reviews from real customers across Lake Charles, Sulphur, Moss Bluff, and the surrounding parishes.
Found Hayes Electrical LLC on Angi's List last September to install a home generator. From the initial phone call and every phone call in between these folks are the best. They handled everything. So kind, helpful and just awesome people. Their workers are very professional, knows their job, all wore work uniforms. We may have had a hiccup once (not their fault) didn't matter they were on top of it thru the entire install. It literally was the easiest install of anything in my house ever!! If I ever need anything I will call Hayes Electrical and no one else. I can't say enough good about these folks. And they are easy to get attached to... their good people🙏 I have to thank Dorian and McKenzie you guys are great!!
A group of men and woman that are talented and focused. All licensed. Their customer service is excellent. They were able to upgrade my electrical system for a house built in the 1970s. We removed outdated fluorescent lighting, and these were replaced with current LED canned lighting, expanded the circuit board and repaired the drywall hole that the old fluorescence left in the ceiling. When we asked for options, they gave us multiple options from which we discussed pros and cons of each. Lastly, they are honest, trustworthy, and reliable.
Hayes Electric was recommended to us by a family member. Since we were moving from out of state, we needed a level 2 charger installed at our new home. I first spoke with Juliet, who scheduled an appointment for an estimate. A few days later, Chris came out, assessed the project, and provided a clear estimate. We decided to hire Hayes Electric to direct wire our charger to the electrical panel. On installation day, McKenzie and Bailey called ahead to let me know when they would arrive, which I really appreciated. They were both very professional, knowledgeable, and took the time to answer all my questions before getting started. The installation went smoothly, and we're very happy with the quality of their work. The pricing was upfront, fair, and within our budget. We will definitely use Hayes Electric again in the future and highly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable and trustworthy electricians.
Great price | $400 - 600 Dorian is the most pleasant, kind, knowledgeable and professional electrician with whom I have ever dealt. I k ew nothing about whole house generators and he so graciously explained every step of the servicing process as he did the work and answered my bazillion questions. The utmost professional and sharp as a tack. I'll call him for all of the electrical needs.
Common questions about same-day electrical repair
What time do I have to call to get same-day?
Calls before noon get a same-day slot in almost all cases. Calls between noon and 3 PM usually still get same-day. After 3 PM we tell you honestly whether we can hit it that day or whether next-morning is more realistic.
Is same-day more expensive?
No. Same-day during business hours is the standard daytime rate. Only after-hours, weekend, and holiday dispatch trigger the emergency rate. Same-day on a weekday is normal scheduling for us.
Can you do a panel upgrade same-day?
No. Panel upgrades require a Calcasieu Parish permit and an Entergy meter-pull, neither of which can be scheduled same-day in practice. We can quote the panel upgrade same-day, but the work itself usually books two to three weeks out.
Will you tell me on the phone if my problem needs a permit?
Yes. The dispatcher asks enough about the symptom to know whether it is a same-day repair or a permitted scope, and tells you which category it falls in before we send a truck.
Do you carry the parts I might need on the truck?
For common repairs, yes. Square D QO, Eaton CH and BR, Siemens breakers in standard amperages. Leviton, Hubbell GFCI, AFCI, tamper-resistant, weather-resistant devices. Common fixtures are special order, so if you want a specific fixture installed, buy it and we install it same-day.
What if the problem turns out to be bigger than expected?
We tell you on the spot, finish the immediate-safe work, document the bigger issue with photos, and quote the follow-up scope separately. You are never pressured into a larger repair on a same-day call.
