Multi-device runs
A new run of receptacles along a wall (workshop, basement, garage, finished room). We pull a dedicated circuit from the panel if the load warrants, or extend an existing lightly-loaded circuit if it does not. Box set and device install

Panel termination
On new circuits, the cable is terminated at a new breaker (AFCI per NEC 210.12 and GFCI per NEC 210.8 where required). On extensions, the cable is spliced at an accessible junction box or wirenutted at the source receptacle.
Test and document
Device tested under load with a known load, voltage verified at the receptacle, ground continuity test, written invoice with the install scope documented.
Permits and inspections
Some jobs need a permit in Calcasieu, some do not. When the parish or city wants one, we pull it under LA Lic #73821, set the rough-in and final inspection, and stay on the job until the inspector signs off. You do not touch the paperwork.

When to call us in for outlet and switch installation
Most outlet and switch installation calls in SWLA come up while a homeowner is already planning something else: a remodel, a generator install before the next hurricane season, an EV charger in the carport, or sizing the service to handle a new addition. NEC requirements that drive the install
NEC 210.52 governs dwelling unit receptacle outlet placement: no point along a wall more than 6 feet from a receptacle (the 6-foot rule), countertop spacing in kitchens, specific locations for bathrooms and hallways. NEC 210.8 requires GFCI in wet and damp locations. NEC 210.12 requires AFCI on most dwelling unit branch circuits. NEC 406.12 requires tamper-resistant in dwelling units. NEC 406.9 requires weather-resistant in damp and wet locations.
Lake Charles specifics
Coastal humidity wears outdoor receptacles faster than inland. We install weather-resistant devices in extra-duty in-use covers on outdoor installs, which extends life. Older Lake Charles homes often have ungrounded two-prong receptacles. NEC 406.4(D) requires grounded-type replacement, and on ungrounded circuits we use GFCI per NEC 406.4(D)(2) with the “No Equipment Ground” label as the code-compliant fix.
Adding to existing circuits versus new circuits
A new receptacle on an existing lightly-loaded circuit is a simple extension if the existing circuit has slot count and ampacity. A new receptacle for a high-draw appliance (microwave, refrigerator, freezer, sump pump) usually needs a dedicated circuit. Adding a switch leg for new lighting often shares the lighting circuit if the load math works. We calculate the load math on the quote so the install does not overload the circuit.
Box selection
NEC 314.16 box fill drives box selection. A 2×3 single-gang box holds limited conductors. A 4-inch square box with a single-gang mud ring holds many more. We use deeper boxes (2 1/8 inch) by default because they accommodate USB-integrated and smart devices that take more depth than a standard device. Old-work boxes for retrofit on finished walls.
Smart home integration considerations
Smart switches and outlets require neutral conductors at the box in most cases because the smart radio draws standby power. Older switch boxes wired with hot-and-traveler only (no neutral) cannot accept most modern smart switches without rewiring. We identify the neutral availability on the quote visit and tell you which smart switch products work in your boxes versus which require additional wiring.
USB and smart outlet considerations
USB-integrated outlets pull standby power even when no device is charging. The standby load is small (under 1 watt typical) but multiplied across many outlets, it adds up. Smart outlets pull similar standby loads. Neither is a concern for typical residential energy use but worth knowing for energy-conscious installs.
Permit requirements
Adding a single outlet on an existing circuit in Calcasieu Parish typically does not require a permit. Adding multiple outlets, new circuits from the panel, or new appliance circuits does require a permit. We pull the permit on permitted scope and coordinate the inspection.
Warranty on install
Standard install warranty is one year on labor. Device manufacturer warranties vary (Leviton, Hubbell, and Lutron all have multi-year warranties on their products). We honor the labor warranty for the full period at no charge for workmanship issues.
When to consider a sub-panel instead of new circuits
If you are adding multiple new circuits to an area of the house far from the main panel (workshop, addition, finished basement), running a single sub-panel feed to a new local sub-panel is often cheaper than running multiple long branch circuit pulls. The math depends on circuit count and run length; we calculate both options on the quote.

How much does it cost to add a single outlet?
A single outlet added to an existing circuit on a finished wall typically runs $200 to $400 depending on access. A new dedicated circuit pulled from the panel for a single outlet runs $400 to $800 depending on the cable run length. We quote on the visit, on paper.
Can you add an outlet behind my TV without cutting the wall open?
In most cases, yes. We use a fish tape and a glow rod to route cable through the wall cavity from a nearby source. Some routes need a small access cut at the top or bottom plate, which we cut clean. Behind-the-TV installs are common and we have a standard approach for them.
Do you install USB outlets?
Yes. Leviton T5632 and similar USB-integrated receptacles install in place of a standard duplex. The box must be deep enough (2 1/8 inch typical) because USB receptacles are deeper than standard devices. We verify box depth on the install and swap the box if needed.
What about smart switches for Alexa or Google Home?
Lutron Caseta, Leviton Decora Smart, and Kasa work with the major smart-home ecosystems. The install is the same as a standard switch except for the neutral conductor requirement (most smart switches need a neutral at the switch box, which older switches often do not have). We verify neutral availability on the install visit.
Do I need GFCI or AFCI on the new outlet?
It depends on the location and the code year the AHJ has adopted. Kitchens, baths, garages, outdoors, laundry, and within 6 feet of any sink need GFCI per NEC 210.8. Most dwelling unit rooms need AFCI per NEC 210.12. We tell you what the location requires on the quote.
How fast can you add an outlet?
Single-outlet adds on existing circuits are usually same-day before noon or next-day for after-noon calls. The install itself is 1 to 3 hours depending on access. New dedicated circuits scheduled within the week.
