Weather-resistant and tamper-resistant per NEC 406.4 at a minimum, marine-rated for direct salt-spray exposure, and GFCI-protected. In-use covers per NEC 406.4 are required on outdoor receptacles. We size the device to the actual exposure of the location.
Standard interior-rated fan motors do not handle humidity and salt air well. Damp-location and wet-location rated fans, with sealed motor housings and coastal-rated finishes, last much longer in Grand Lake porch and screened-space installs.
Usually no. Standard 1/2 inch deep fixture boxes are not rated for the dynamic load of a ceiling fan. NEC 314 requires a fan-listed box. We replace the box during fan installation when the existing one is not rated.
